Ahead of the Curve

aheadOfTheCurve

I knew that we were getting Feats of Strength for completing 5.0 raids before 5.2 hit, but I was under the impression it was run Feat of Strength for completing the entire tier on normal and a second for completing the entire tier on heroic. I was quite surprised to find this Feat of Strength when I played last night.

When you earned an achievement is, in many cases, as important as whether or not you earned it at all. In my personal tracking here on Kor’kron 501st, I always note what patch I downed a boss. I’ve been hoping for a while that Blizzard would add the patch at the time of earning the achievement next to the date, but they don’t seem to think it’s important. Giving a Feat of Strength for completing a raid when it’s current fulfills the same role (at least for raids).

I hope Blizzard will continue to award this type of Feat of Strength. I wouldn’t mind seeing similar Feats of Strength for the Glory of the Raider achievements and Loremaster achievements at the end of each expansion.

Cloud Serpent Hatchlings

Every once in a while I can’t resist a photo op, even if there isn’t much to say about it!

Mooglegem and I started the Order of the Cloud Serpent faction recently. Look at these cute little guys. I said look at them! I want to permanently have a gang of multi-colored cloud serpent hatchlings following me around.

Tying up loose ends

Over the last week, I decided to finish the few heroics and scenarios I hadn’t done. It seems strange that I missed some, but I guess that’s just the way random queuing works. I completed the Crypt of Forgotten Kings earlier in the week, leaving one heroic and one scenario for the weekend. Yesterday Mooglegem and I ran a couple randoms of each in hopes of getting what we needed, but it just didn’t happen. After capping our Valor Points for the week, we queued directly for heroic Shado-pan Monastery and Assault on Zan’vess. It was strange not being familiar with a heroic, but I suppose I had only done it once previously, and that was on normal.

Now we’ve completed all the heroics and Horde scenarios. We’re as ready as we’re going to be for 5.2! (Hm? Normal and heroic raids? Well, don’t mind those. The other faction reputations? Shh. Wrathion’s 5.1 quests? Those will be done Tuesday!)

Exalted with the Golden Lotus

Golden Lotus Artifacts

Note: There will be spoilers for the Golden Lotus reputation and quests in this post.

Recently Mooglegem and I had successfully retrieved three powerful artifacts once belonging to the mogu ruler, the Thunder King, and locked them away with the Golden Lotus standing guard. This past week the mogu hit the Vale very hard, and when we went to check on the artifacts, the guards were all dead and the artifacts were missing!

Super Barrier

We began cleaning up the Vale by killing the mogu we encountered. When we approached Mogu’shan Palace, I saw a huge barrier of some sort. I joked that there must be a powerful discipline priest near because it looked like my Power: Word Barrier. Of course, what discipline priest would be strong enough to do this?

Anduin Barrier

Apparently I forgot that there was one strong enough! We ran into Anduin Wrynn keeping the barrier stable. You know your in good hands when you encounter the Prince of Stormwind.

Golden Lotus Fireworks

We assaulted the remaining mogu from the barrier Anduin provided and successfully drove them from the Vale. Returning to the Golden Pagoda, we were greeted with fireworks and congratulations. Despite how successful we might have been in killing the mogu, they did succeed in reclaiming the Thunder King’s artifacts. What do they have planned with those? I guess we’ll find out soon…

Oh boy, I love patch trailers!

Patch 5.2 and beyond with Dave Kosak, Anne Stickney, WoW Insider, 2/27/13.

An excellent interview with Dave Kosak. We get to hear more about the 5.2 patch trailer’s poem and the development of the patch. It was also interesting to find out that we can do the 5.1 scenarios of the opposite faction (and that there’s a lore reason).

A farewell to yaks, Dawn Moore, WoW Insider, 2/25/13.

Did you know that Ruthers wasn’t tied to the GCD, so you could summon a ton of him? Unfortunately it’s been patched now. I love you, Ruthers.

Popcorn and peanuts exist in Wow! I love peanuts! And exclamations!

Garalon has been vanquished

Garalon deadWe managed to kill Garalon last night! I have a lot of videos of us failing, but near the end of the raid night we managed to kill him. Hopefully we have the strategy and skill to continue killing him in the future. We actually did a quick attempt on the next boss too before calling it.

You can see our success above! Funny that I just posted about Garalon, too. I’ll consider this a birthday present from Blizzard and my guild.

Garalon is really hated

GaralonStands

My guild, Carpe Flux Capacitor, has been stuck on Garalon for a couple weeks now. It seems very frustrating, but really we only downed the previous boss on the 12th. Regardless, I can tell people are getting frustrated.

Last week, I noticed a poll on WoW Insider called “Poll: The worst boss of tier 14” by Olivia Grace. As of writing this, Garalon is winning by a huge amount. Of the 16 bosses, you’d expect each boss to be hated by 6.25% if things were equal. Well, 28.6% of the votes were for Garalon.

The long story short is that we shouldn’t be too worried. Apparently everyone hates Garalon, not just us.

I actually played an alt

Goblin Alts

I don’t really play alts. I’ve never been max level on any character except my main. I have a DK that’s 71 and a shaman that’s 42. Besides those, my characters are all super low.

Well, a couple days ago Mooglegem and I decided to play our goblins. It seemed like a good choice because we wanted to play something different, and goblins would give us the chance to also see the goblin starting zone. And you wouldn’t believe how high I leveled her already! I got all the way to level 2!

And now, who knows when I’ll have another chance to play her. Still, it was fun. I made a rogue, and Mooglegem made a shaman. I’d love to play alts more, but there’s so much I always need to be doing on my main. On top of that, I don’t always want to be playing WoW. I’m going to try to work in a little more time for my rogue though.

Mooglegem finally becomes sha-touched

Sha-touched

Mooglegem has had her Crystallized Horror for weeks now but no sha-touched weapon with which to use it. Last week we decided to run Terrace of Endless Spring multiple times in LFR to be able to use multiple Elder Charms of Good Fortune. Lucky for her, she got it – Loshan, Terror Incarnate! The weapon itself without the gem was a huge upgrade, so it was obviously an even bigger upgrade with the gem.

Congratulations, Mooglegem!

Stormrage, a badly written novel

Posted by Peter (Devee) on February 14, 2013
Posted in: Novels, World of Warcraft. Tagged: book, broll bearmantle, Christie Golden, fandral staghelm, hamuul runetotem, lucan foxblood, malfurion stormrage, novel, Richard A. Knaak, stormrage, tyrande whisperwind, warcraft, world of warcraft, wow. Leave a comment

Stormrage

While I love Christie Golden’s Warcraft books, this was my first by Richard A. Knaak, and I found it severely lacking. The story seemed a bit sloppy, and I didn’t care for the writing. However, the overall story was an important part of the on-going Warcraft story.

The story centers around something that should be a huge event in the Warcraft universe. I’d expect this to be listed alongside the war against Illidan, the War in Northrend, and the Horde-Alliance War after the Cataclysm. It’s an epic story, and fans of the universe should enjoy learning more about the events. While not a problem with the novel itself, I should point out that Blizzard seems to overlook the events of this novel in the game itself.

I have a few major problems with the book. The first one is the most important despite being the hardest to articulate. I just wasn’t feeling it. I gave up on Stormrage three times before finally getting through it. It jumped around to different characters and took a long time to get me to care about most of the characters. I eventually came around to Broll, one of the main characters, and I would enjoy seeing more of him in the future. The biggest hook for me was the inclusion of Hamuul Runetotem, Archdruid and tauren. While he wasn’t the most front-and-center character, he was someone I liked, so I clung to him.

Two major characters, Malfurion and Tyrande, seem flawed. Malfurion, despite having difficulties and setbacks, just seems far too powerful. Tyrande on the other hand received some characterization but usually takes a backseat to Malfurion. Why yield to him so much? Knaak does have her assert herself sometimes, which is good, but it’s still hard for me to think of her as a real character when Blizzard treats her as nothing but a figurehead next to Malfurion.

Malfurion needs to gather power to perform a task, so he draws as much power as he can. Shortly after that, he realizes he doesn’t have enough power, so he draws all the power he can, which is just a bit more. Of course, it’s still not enough, so what does he do? He draws all the power he can out of those same sources and finds a little more this time. I had to ask myself, “didn’t Malfurion already tap all the power he could from that?” Apparently the answer was no.

Late in the book, someone’s identity is revealed to the reader and some characters. Tyrande does not learn of it at the time, but in the chapters following her, Knaak continually references the true identity. He points out that Tyrande doesn’t currently know the identity but that at some later point, Malfurion tells her. Then he slips into continually having Tyrande thoughts include the identity. It’s true that it’s Knaak the narrator using the true identity, not Tyrande, but it feels reads very oddly.

My final complaint is regarding word usage. There are certain descriptions that Knaak uses over and over. This character wears a stoic expression. That character’s face is stoic. This scene is macabre. That creature is macabre. Yes, we get it.

Admittedly, the events described in Stormrage are interesting. The novel also fills a gap in Warcraft’s history that will be apparent to people paying attention to the games. If you’ve asked yourself what happened to the trouble with the Emerald Dream / Emerald Nightmare or wondered why Malfurion was suddenly back in Azeroth, this novel will answer your questions. However, if I were to rate the novel without consideration for the larger universe, I’d have to give it even lower than the two out of five stars that I did.

Carpe’s Off-Raid Day

On Saturday we decided to raid Mogu’shan Vaults because our normal raid nights are now only Heart of Fear. When we got to Elegon, we decided to try to earn “And… It’s Good!” for flying through the rings. We got it, and now you can share in our joy by watching the above video!

Afterward we went to complete “A Change of Command,” a quest for the second chapter of Wrathion’s quests. If you’re worried, the video doesn’t have any spoilers. It’s just a fight, but it does take a group of people. We did it with 10. It was a pretty fun fight especially considering it’s a mob out in the world!

I’m not sure how it would kill twinking, but I think scaling players levels to the highest level of their PvP bracket is pretty cool! (And scaling in PvP works well in TOR.)

Patch 5.2: Valor and Conquest Points will be reset, Olivia Grace, WoW Insider, 2/6/13.

Valor converts to Justice, and Conquest converts to Honor. That’s normal. What’s different is that current Valor gear will still cost Valor. Rewards from 5.0 factions will be at a 75% discount and rewards from 5.1 factions will be at a 50% discount. That’s great, but then why take all of our Valor away? I understand the predicament in wanting to ensure people don’t get ahead, but that sucks a little.

Duncan Jones directing Warcraft movie

Posted by Peter (Devee) on February 1, 2013
Posted in: Movie. Tagged: duncan jones, film, moon, movie, source code, warcraft, world of warcraft, wow. Leave a comment

We finally, again, know the director of the upcoming Warcraft movie, Duncan Jones. Is he talented? Definitely, seriously, incredibly, yes. But can he do Warcraft?

Moon, which Duncan Jones wrote and directed, is one of my favorite films of all time. It’s science fiction at its core without the extra padding that passes as science fiction films currently. While big-budget science fiction films are usually about the action and special effects, Moon is about its intriguing story that makes you question beliefs and wonder at the future. It tells the tale of a man finishing his three year, solitary stay on the Moon operating a mining facility as he comes into a large, personal crisis. I highly recommend you watch the film if you haven’t already. Actually, I recommend you watch it anyway.

The next movie that Duncan Jones directed was Source Code. I can’t say much about it because I haven’t seen it, but I do know that it’s another science fiction film.

Fantasy and science fiction often go hand-in-hand, but they’re actually very different. Jones’ films have been hard science fiction and rather dark. Warcraft is not science fiction, and Warcraft is usually pretty light. Yes, it gets epic, and there are dark moments, but it’s full of humor at every turn. There are definitely stories of the seedy underbelly of society in Warcraft, but they’re usually not the focus.

My respect for Duncan Jones guarantees my extreme excitement at his announcement of the Warcraft even if logically I wonder how applicable his skills will be at directing Warcraft. I never really had high hopes for the movie honestly, so maybe I just feel like there’s nothing to lose, and giving this huge chance to Duncan Jones offers a large gain. Obviously the film will be big-budget, but I really hope it doesn’t feel like that’s all there is to it. I want the story to be meaningful and, well, epic.

At the very least, I trust that this announcement (and the film’s eventual release) will at least drum up interest in and respect for Duncan Jones. That’s a win to me!

First kills of Will of the Emperor and Imperial Vizier Zor’lok

Will of the Emperors Kill

Last night was the second time we saw the Will of the Emperor in normal mode. It was a pretty easy fight, and we downed it quickly! No gear from this, although last night while clearing through Elegon I got a raid world drop trinket, Jade Magistrate Figurine (replacing a Coren Direbrew DPS trinket, actually), and necklace, Zian’s Choker of Coalesced Shadow from The Spirit Kings.

You can watch our kill above! I hope we didn’t chatter too much or say anything stupid.

Imperial Vizier Zor'lok

Last night was then our first time entering Heart of Fear (not counting Raid Finder). On our first attempt of Imperial Vizier Zor’lok, he glitched and didn’t despawn after our wipe. We ended up resetting the raid, which means we had to clear trash again. Bad news, right? Wrong! I got a raid world drop, Gleaming Moth Cuffs. They replaced rare quality wrists, so this was a huge upgrade.

The fight wasn’t too bad at all! Again, you can see our kill video above. I apologize again if we say anything stupid… such as me thinking my raid leader gave me loot when it was actually from the Elder Charm of Good Fortune I stupidly used. But I did win Gloves of Grasping Claws! I also used valor to upgrade my Kri’tak, Imperial Scepter of the Swarm (raid finder) once. Lots of good upgrades this week.

You can see our World of Logs report here.

Over Their Heads

After earning Over Their Heads the other day, I can finally say good bye to the Klaxxi. Over Their Heads is an achievement that tasks you with attacking different rare spawns during the daily quest Dark Skies. I’ve been checking it everyday, and it’s now complete!

Black licorice

Mooglegem came up with a great analogy earlier that I thought I’d share. The Sha of Anger is like a pinata that only contains black licorice.

You know, because you never get anything good?

If you like black licorice, get out.

Elegon dead

What a fantastic raid week! We had cleared up to Elegon on Tuesday, giving us Wednesday to work on Elegon. We had to work out some changes to our raid team due to scheduling, but we found a solution and proceeded with the celestial dragon slaying. It took us a number of attempts, but this is the kind of raiding that I love. It was challenging, but we got better with each attempt. We learned, changed our strategies, and eventually killed him!

Elegon was probably the most fun boss I’ve done yet this expansion, but maybe I’m just still happy we killed him. It was also one of the first times in a while in which I stopped casting altogether so save mana. Now we just have one more boss to go in Mogu’shan Vaults!

Lorewalkers

Mooglegem and I have been doing pretty well with our faction reputations recently. Last week we hit exalted with the Lorewalkers. As most people probably know, this really just takes a couple hours of work. As you travel around Pandaria, you can click lore objects to read about them. When you read every lore object on a given subject, you’re sent mail by Lorewalker Cho inviting you to come learn more. This additional learning is done through watching a small play, basically. It’s very cool! I hope they include more things like this in the future.

Breath of the Black Prince obtained!

Black Prince

Wrathion is an interesting character, and I’ve been dying to see more of his legendary quest line. Unfortunately, I’ve been stuck for a few weeks now. Sure, I have a ton of Sigils of Power, but that last Sigil of Wisdom just didn’t want to drop.

Legendary Gem

This weekend my final Sigil of Wisdom dropped for me at the end of Terrace of Endless Spring. Wrathion sent me right back into the raid again to defeat the Sha of Fear for a second time in a row, but it was worth it. While I had already seen Wrathion’s actions and dialogue when he creates the gem, it was great seeing him do it for me. I think it felt powerful, and I love the line, “Make no mistake: the Black Dragonflight lives on!”

Wrathion Horde

Wrathion proceeded with a dialogue about what it means to be in the Horde. “Is it an instrument of vengeance, hellbent to carve out a future for its people? Is it a refuge for those who need shelter, a commonwealth of the downtroddon, built for mutual support? Or is it an alliance of convenience, a confederacy of unlikely partners free to pursue their own agendas?” He brings up great questions. Of course, the answer is simple. Yes. Yes, it is all those things. He then spoke of valor before tasking me to grind reputation with him off Alliance forces in Krasarang Wilds and to earn 6000 valor points. Well, the end of February should be fun!

Spirit Kings

Hot on the heels of Tuesday’s first kill of Gara’jal the Spiritbinder, we one shot the Spirit Kings! We had never even attempted this boss before ever (because we had just killed Gara’jal for the first time). It was definitely a good night! No loot dropped for me, but I’m happy anyways!

After our one shot, we went to try Elegon. We wiped twice on the trash. Apparently trash is more difficult than bosses. We got one attempt in on Elegon before we had to call it, but next week should be great!

Mooglegem and I were late to the raid because she had to work overtime. We didn’t make it online until 8:05 or so even though the raid was supposed to start at 7:00. On top of that, one member had to leave at 9:00. That means our normal 3 hours was cut down to 55 minutes. I’m amazed we still made some progress!

Realization, Anna, Too Many Annas, 1/9/13.

I should have posted this last week. I’m in agreement with a lot of this. I don’t have time to do everything Blizzard wants me to do, and I miss the idea of finishing everything I needed to do for the week and just being done.

Know Your Lore: Hands drenched in blood, Anne Stickney, WoW Insider, 1/13/13.

A fantastic look at the lore behind the Blood elves and Lor’themar Theron. I’ve been really fascinated with the Blood elves recently, so I was very excited to see that Anne wrote this!

Stormwind and Orgrimmar get repaired, somewhat, on the patch 5.2 PTR, Olivia Grace, WoW Insider, 1/10/13

Title says it all. I’m excited about this!

Examining the tier 15 priest set bonuses, Dawn Moore, WoW Insider, 1/16/13.

Good to know for priests!

Patch 5.2 valor gear not tied to dailies, Olivia Grace, WoW Insider, 1/14/13.

O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!

Patch 5.2 PTR: New notes from Ghostcrawler on tier 15 bonuses, other balance concerns, Adam Holisky, WoW Insider, 1/15/13.

Might be good info. Then again, things might change.

Patch 5.2: No flying mounts in the new zone, Adam Holisky, WoW Insider, 1/16/13.

Flying does feel like skipping content, so I’m glad about this.

Direhorn hunter pet in patch 5.2 is the triceratops we’ve been wanting, Olivia Grace, WoW Insider, 1/16/13.

I need a hunter. Now.

Gara’jal the Dead Troll

Gara'jal

Tonight (or last night by the time this gets posted) we killed Gara’jal the Spiritbinder for the first time. Yes, yes, I know it’s late in the tier, but I’m still very happy! We didn’t really have problems with him either. We had a few delays, including an hour break in the middle of the raid, and we still downed him fairly early. I’m confident that we can get through the first three bosses in a single night in the future.

Gara’jal didn’t drop loot for me, but my Elder Charm actually came through for me! I received Sandals of the Severed Soul! Not only was it an upgrade, but it was better than five other possible upgrades! Woo! Tomorrow (or today) I get to see a new boss!

Dominance Offensive

DO - 02

Mooglegem and I finished the Dominance Offensive recently. Getting a new storyline, non-repeatable quest every two days of dailies is a whole lot better than the faction reputations that launched with Mists of Pandaria. As I worked on my Klaxxi reputation, I only got a break from the monotony when my reputation level changed. With the Dominance Offensive, I looked forward to the dailies because I wanted to see where the story went. I hope that dailies in the future follow the Dominance Offensive model.

I took a lot of screenshots along the way, so I thought I’d go through them. Landfall starts with Garrosh landing in the Krasarang Wilds and leading the Dominance Offensive in an attempt to conquer take control of Pandaria. He doesn’t seem to want to forcibly take it from the pandaren, but he definitely wants to keep it away from the Alliance. He brings tauren, Blood elf, and goblin with him and his orcs but distrusts the Forsaken and Darkspear. When Vol’jin follows after being ordered not to come to Pandaria, Garrosh sends him on a mission with the Kor’kron. This is really a secret mission for the Kor’kron to slay Vol’jin. Ultimately they fail as Vol’jin clings to life while the player heroes return, pretending that the deed was done.

DO 06

Vol’jin gives players his hearthstone, which players then take to Thrall. Learning something is wrong, Thrall escorts the heroes to the Echo Isles where they discover that Garrosh has ordered martial law and is treating the Darkspear as prisoners under the watch of Kor’kron. When the Kor’kron explain that they will not stop at Thrall’s request, Thrall and the heroes slay the Kor’kron, and Thrall stays in the Echo Isles to protect the remaining Darkspear.

DO 10

Garrosh travels across Pandaria with Malkorok, former Blackrock member, and Ishi. He’s intrigued by the mogu’s power, especially their ability to create warriors. Garrosh orders Lor’themar Theron, leader of the Blood elves, to find out more about the mogu’s powers. After Garrosh orders Blood elves to an area without warning them about the mogu present in the area, Lor’themar Theron further questions Garrosh’s rule. He remarks that with the Horde not valuing Blood elf life (just as the Alliance treated his people at the end of presence in the Alliance), perhaps it’s time to rethink their stay in the Horde and to consider old alliance. Baine Bloodhoof arrives on Pandaria as well and appears to help Garrosh. He doesn’t really agree. In fact, he’s in communication with Vol’jin but chooses to stay close to Garrosh.

DO 12

A Sha-related artifact is found, and Garrosh uses it to empower his soldiers. The warriors can’t control is and end up driven mad. In this picture, a Sha-touched mindbender battles a Sha-corrupted Horde soldier. After more pushing by Garrosh, Fanlyr Silverthorn, of the Reliquary (and likely the Sunreavers) discovered information about the Divine Bell, an artifact capable of empowering warriors. Its location was eventually discovered, but the Alliance beat the Horde to it and teleported it to Darnassus.

Fanlyr teleports Horde heroes to Darnassus and magically cloaks them. He urges them to remain hidden, telling the heroes that should Jaina Proudmoore discover the Sunreavers’ actions there could be dire consequences. The Divine Bell is found and teleported to Silvermoon.

DO 16

Unfortunately, Jaina does discover the actions of the Sunreavers and exiles them from Dalaran. Any Sunreavers she discovers are attacked and imprisoned. Horde heroes are sent to Dalaran and meet with Grand Magister Rommath. They evacuate as many Sunreavers as they can, slay Alliance soldiers stationed in Dalaran, and free the Sunreaver Dragonhawks so that escape will be possible.

DO 18

Heroes search the city for Aethas Sunreaver, leader of the Sunreavers. He’s discovered imprisoned in the Violet Citadel. After freeing him, he makes an escape with the heroes.

DO 19

Grand Magister Rommath, Aethas Sunreaver, and the Horde heroes escape through the sewers of Dalaran and jump out of a pipe, landing on the Sunreaver Dragonhawks below. In this picture, you can see Mooglegem still falling. (Don’t worry; She lands on a Dragonhawk just fine.)

In Silvermoon, Lor’themar Theron learns of the happenings in Dalaran. After angrily throwing a bench, he welcomes the Sunreavers to Silvermoon, and the Sunreavers join the ranks of the Magisters. Lor’themar Theron remarks that the Alliance’s actions have only pushed the Blood elves back further into Garrosh’s Horde.

DO 21

Back in Pandaria, Garrosh prepares to use the Divine Bell. While clearly wielding the power of the Sha, Garrosh doesn’t care. He rings the bell, his Kor’kron and Ishi are corrupted by Sha.

DO 23

Anduin attempts to stop Garrosh from using the bell, but it’s too late. As the corruption spreads, Anduin helps the Horde heroes defeat the corrupted soldiers who are not able to control their power. Garrosh seems to believe that if a person is strong enough, they can control the power.

Anduin uses the Harmonic Mallet to stop the effects of the Divine Bell. Garrosh, furious, strikes the Divine Bell, shattering it and burying Anduin, presumed dead by the Horde.

DO 25

And then Horde heroes are given mounts. I’m sure Anduin lives, but I don’t actually know the Operation: Shieldwall story. I’m considering watching it on YouTube, but it’d be nice to stay in the dark like I should in character. Regardless, the Dominance Offensive was some of the best story-telling Blizzard’s done with WoW. I look forward to further content like this and can’t wait to see what plays out with the faction leaders. Lor’themar Theron finally took action, and I loved learning more about the Blood elves. I’m sure I’ll learn more in the next patch!

Killing a bad

Killing a bad

LFR.

It’s almost always full of wipes, jerks, and waiting for spots to fill. I did have an interesting run last week though. There was one person who was particularly arrogant and bad. He continually called himself number one despite never being anywhere near the top of the chart. In fact, he made a lot of mistakes, pulled early, and was a huge problem. I’ll just call him… “Rotdik.” Luckily, Blizzard has given me the skills to deal with these people when I don’t want to raid with them.

I stood in the pheromones and watched my health tick down. When it was pretty low and Rotdik’s still nearly full, I used Void Shift to swap health with him. Normally one of the other healers would just heal him back to full, right? Wrong, because I used Leap of Faith to pull him into the pheromones when he was a tick away from death. At full health, I simply walked out while he took the tick and died.

Problem solved. I love my class.

The Klaxxi

Klaxxi Wakener

This weekend, Mooglegem and I became exalted with the Klaxxi. I enjoyed seeing their story unfold, but I was also very glad to put it behind us. I was very happy with it for a while, actually, but eventually it just got so repetitive. Once I’d done every daily 10 times, how exciting could it be to see it again? If you continue reading, there are some slight spoilers, but I’ll avoid the “big reveal.”

Klaxxi Fight

It was cool to see the story culminate in a fight between the Klaxxi and the queen’s forces. It was leading to it, and I was afraid Blizzard would neglect to show it to us. It was never explicitly stated as far as I can tell, but I wonder if the fight outside is why there aren’t Klaxxi with us in the Heart of Fear. We’re the representatives of the Klaxxi pushing inside while the rest of them hold back the bulk of the her forces outside.

The reveal

I wonder if Blizzard knows they need to keep these reputation grinds more exciting? The Klaxxi was interesting, yes, but it was also about three times too long. You know what they could do to improve it? They could give me more non-daily quests that progress the story, say once every two days or so. Oh, yeah, they did that with Dominance Offensive. The Dominance Offensive is quite the grind as well, but I enjoy seeing the story play out as often as it does.

And now it’s time to get started with the Golden Lotus.

WoWMono

Yesterday (by the time this is posted) I saw two packages sitting outside my house from Amazon. I glanced at the label, saw my roommate’s name, and brought them in for them. It wasn’t until I was setting them down that I noticed that the second one was actually addressed to me! Of course, I hadn’t ordered anything, so I assumed Mooglegem had shipped something to my name and address. I set it aside in my room and went about my day.

Later she told me that she didn’t order anything. I thought it was strange. That’s when she said “oh, the Secret Santa!” She was right (at least I assume). I still don’t know who my Secret Santa was, but he bought me the World of Warcraft Monopoly game! I can’t wait to play it. It even has instructions for a one-hour version that should help me find people to play with me.

Thanks, Secret Santa!

Here’s an excerpt:

600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 5,900 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 10 years to get that many views.

Look! I got Lumpy! He’s a cute little guy. Happy Winter Veil everybody!

(As a side note, I spent hours looking for a knit Christmas sweater with Christmas trees, snowman, or something similar on it this past weekend. I couldn’t find any. Why is it easier to find a sweater in WoW than in real life?)

Feng down

Feng

Last night we managed to kill Feng the Accursed! He went down without too much trouble, and we had time to spare! One person had to leave, and we didn’t have someone to fill the spot, so he switched to LFR. We played a different sort of game there. Once we recognized that dying was best because it meant you didn’t have to do anything, I just spammed heals on guildies to keep them alive despite their best efforts.

Fun night.

Every once in a while I can’t resist a photo op, even if there isn’t much to say about it!

When Mooglegem saw this, she exclaimed “that tombstone is Ryu!” It does sort of look like that!

The Manipulator and Dissector

Man and Diss

While doing my Klaxxi dailies the other day, I noticed this amusing conversation. This kind of thing really brings the game world alive.

Rik’kal the Dissector: That is quite an impressive beast you have there, Manipulator. Very intriguing.

Kaz’tik the Manipulator: No.

Rik’kal the Dissector: All those years in stasis followed by sudden, rapid growth.

Kaz’tik the Manipulator: Do not even ask.

Rik’kal the Dissector: I am just saying… I bet his genes tell quite a story…

Kaz’tik the Manipulator: And I am just saying, Dissector, that you do not appear to possess any resistance to sonic manipulation.

Kaz’tik the Manipulator: How would you like to suddenly become “intrigued” by your own thorax? I bet your skilled hands could perform a self-vivisection in mere seconds if they were properly compelled.

Rik’kal the Dissector: Point taken.

Raid night

Posted by Peter (Devee) on December 12, 2012
Posted in: Devee, Journal, Raiding, World of Warcraft. Tagged: feng the accursed, mogu'shan vaults, sha, sha of anger, the stone guard, warcraft, world of warcraft, wow. Leave a comment

Last night went decently. We downed the Stone Guard very quickly, which was only our second kill. It was also the first for which Mooglegem was present, so I’m glad she got some personal progression. We put in some good attempts on Feng the Accursed, but we couldn’t kill him. We got him under 20% but didn’t have time to kill him. I’m confident that we will very soon though. Assuming the same people show up for our raid Thursday, I think we’ll get him then.

Our problems mostly came from learning the fight – determining when to use CDs and how to place abilities. For example, we had issues with the fires being too close, barrier placement, usage of CDs during the fires, and Feng running through fires on the transition to phase three. However, we worked through most of them.

After the raid, we killed the Sha of Anger. Unfortunately, neither Mooglegem nor I received loot, but a guildie did. This was also the first time Mooglegem got to fight the Sha of Anger, so I’d say it was a good night for her.

Here’s to Thursday!

For a Dragonflight that’s generally evil, a black dragon can still look nice against a beautiful background.

Blog Azeroth: What I want for Winter Veil

Posted by Peter (Devee) on December 10, 2012
Posted in: Blog Azeroth Shared Topics, Holidays, World of Warcraft. Tagged: blog azeroth, greatfather winter, mataoka, shared topic, sugar & blood, winter veil, world of warcraft, wow. Leave a comment

Every week, Blog Azeroth proposes a Shared Topic for World of Warcraft bloggers to discuss. This week’s topic was proposed by Noahdeer of Be MOP.

Winter Veil is around the corner and it’s time to sit upon Greatfather Winter’s lap and answer the important question, “What do you want for Winter Veil?” Is it that expensive grand expedition yak? a nice transmog custom outfit? or a Red Ryder carbine-action, two hundred shot Range Model air rifle with a compass in the stock?

What is on your Winter Veil wishlist?

I have to admit, this was actually last week’s Shared Topic. Whoops.

What do I want for Winter Veil? Well, there are two things I check the Auction House. I want a Tabard of the Lightbringer and a Spectral Tiger.

Icecrown Citadel is still the only tier that I raided consistently from start to finish. It was at the peak of my time investment in World of Warcraft, so it’s important in my memory. I still wear T10 because it seems so valorous and priestly, and I think the Tabard of the Lightbringer would go well with it!

As for the Spectral Tiger? Well, it looks amazing. While I like the Swift and regular, I think I like Swift Spectral Tiger a little less only because of the armor.

Hurry up, Greatfather Winter! Bring me my gifts!

The last topic was proposed by Mataoka of Sugar & Blood.

What is one thing, just one thing, you did that was pretty awful in Azeroth, that you wish you could get some kind of redemption or forgiveness for, or even just get off your chest?

You can read the responses here!

Heroic Lich King 10

LK10 H

Well, I had a little more progression this week – kind of. We decided to three-man ICC 10. After the first five bosses or so, we decided to switch it to heroic mode. It was totally doable. On Sindragosa, a fourth person joined us. Previously I was 11/12 ICC10H, but now I’m 12/12! It was nice to finally earn Bane of the Fallen King too!

Valius, Gavel of the Lightbringer

I also got a nice drop – Valius, Gavel of the Lightbringer. I was already transmogged into T10, so this went very well. It was a good night!
